From Salce. Grandfather of Gino RONI (Ginetto), son of the late Emilio.

In short, the documents tell us:

Born on 05.10.1886, son of Giovanni and Rosa DA ROLD. Married to Maria Rosina DE MIN (1892 – 1966).

Two children: Luigi Gino (1913 – 1939) and Emilio (1915 – 1997).

A labourer, he worked in Germany and Austria. Corporal major of the 140th Infantry Regiment of the Bari Brigade (139th and 140th Regiments), part of the 28th Division (facing the San Martino saddle, Karst) of the XIV Army Corps –
3rd Army – (front between Lucinico and the sea).

Killed in action at Bosco Lancia on 15.10.1915, he rests in the Redipuglia ossuary. It happened on the slopes of Monte San Michele, south-east of Gradisca (Karst), three days before the start of the Third Battle of the Isonzo. In
this area there was bitter fighting for fourteen months, with attacks and counter-attacks, few results and thousands of dead and missing, until the breakthrough and the capture of Gorizia.

Awarded the War Merit Cross and two commemorative medals of the 1915/18 War.

He received the commemorative medal for the relief work carried out in the areas devastated by the earthquake of 28.12.1908, while serving with the 21st Infantry Regiment of the Cremona Brigade.

The earthquake and tsunami destroyed much of Messina and Reggio Calabria, killing tens of thousands of people.
