To pay tribute to our soldiers who died in the two world wars of the last century, from now on a space in this periodical will be set aside for a dedicated column.

 

In our small way we also want to make them known to the young, and remembered by the old: those who, most out of duty and some by free choice, fell in combat or went missing, died of illness or in captivity, in the various theatres of war.

 

Memory and knowledge of the past help us not to repeat the same mistakes; sadly, not everyone heeds these lessons. So we will not talk about war in general, but about the individual (then considered just a service number), sent willingly or unwillingly into the fight, sometimes to slaughter.

 

This research is based on documents, publications and testimonies concerning the fallen of our parish.

 

By parish we mean not only its present territory but also that of the past: from the Piave to Costalonga, from the Ponte delle Moneghe to the boundary with Sedico.

 

We begin with the First World War, in which 27 of our soldiers died, as recorded on the memorial plaques outside the churches of Col di Salce and San Fermo.

 

Each is considered individually, in chronological order of the date of death or disappearance, placing them, where possible, in the military actions or other events of the day or days on which it happened.
